How We Started
Why We Set Out to Build Differently
P.A.S Design Build grew out of more than a decade of Patrick and me working together in New York, watching where the state's building codes and energy standards were headed, and deciding we wanted to get ahead of that shift instead of catching up to it later. We knew homeowners would need homes that used less energy, performed better, and were ready for New York's changing energy landscape — not as an afterthought, but as part of the plan from day one.
That's part of the story. The other part is more personal. Over the years we heard too many accounts from homeowners who'd had a rough time with contractors — poor communication, costs that crept up without warning, promises that didn't hold. We believed the experience could be better, so we built the kind of company we'd want to hire ourselves: one built on integrity, communication, transparency, craftsmanship, and respect for the people we're building for.
High-performance construction is a major part of what we do. But just as important is how the process feels for the homeowner going through it. Building better means building better homes — and building them a better way.

Aiden and Patrick have worked together in New York for the past ten years. Today they run P.A.S Design Build with the support and involvement of their spouses. A decade of working side by side gave them a clear read on each other's strengths — and an even clearer idea of the kind of company they wanted to build together.
At P.A.S Design Build, family ownership shapes the way they work. Aiden and Patrick remain closely involved from the first site visit through the final walkthrough, giving clients a direct connection to the people behind the company. Their approach reflects the standards they would expect for their own homes: thoughtful decisions, careful craftsmanship, and a lasting commitment to quality.

Our Architect
Renee Ferguson
Our work is rooted in a quiet philosophy: building with a gentle footprint. We approach each space through the careful calibration of color and light, using them as primary tools to anchor geometries, define spatial organization, and establish an intentional environmental atmosphere. We believe that thoughtful architecture respects both the human scale and the natural world, creating enduring spaces through restraint, craft, and environmental consciousness.
Renee holds a Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, and is a registered architect in New York and Massachusetts, as well as a Certified Passive House Designer and Tradesperson.

A lot of builders can put up a beautiful house. A lot of architects can design one. And there are specialists who understand Passive House and high-performance construction well. What's rare is a team that brings all three together from the start.
That matters because performance isn't something you can add at the end of a project. Orientation, envelope, insulation, air sealing, mechanical systems, materials, and construction execution all affect one another. Handle them separately and something gets lost in the handoff. Handle them together, and the result is a home that doesn't just look right on the day it's finished — it's built to feel good to live in, use less energy, and hold up for decades.

Why We Specialize in Net Zero and Passive House High-Performance Homes
We believe better-built homes create a better everyday experience. Energy efficiency is part of that, but Net Zero and passive house performance were never just about a low utility bill or a certificate on the wall. They're about homes that are quieter, healthier, more comfortable, more durable, and less dependent on energy for as long as you own them.
The building envelope, air sealing, insulation, reduced thermal bridging, efficient mechanical systems, and thoughtful passive design all work together. Done right, you feel the difference every day — even in the parts of the house you'll never see.
There's a bigger responsibility behind it, too. A home consumes resources for decades after it's built. If we're going to build something meant to stand for generations, we think it's worth building it as intelligently and responsibly as we know how.
Local Roots
Twenty Years in New York. Ten Years Building in the Hudson Valley.
New York isn't a market we moved into — it's where we're from. We've lived and worked in the state for twenty years, and we've spent the last ten building homes throughout the Hudson Valley specifically. My mother was born in New York, and my grandfather ran a business here starting back in the 1950s. Building in this state is part of our family history as much as it's our work.
That kind of tenure matters when you're building a home. It means we know Ulster County's zoning and permitting process, how the Shawangunks and the river towns handle weather across the seasons, and what actually holds up here — not in a generic climate zone, but in this one.
